Our review of Zero Dark Thirty:

KRISTIAN: “Zero Dark Thirty” is the new film from Ms. Point Break herself, Kathryn Bigelow…she’s got an Oscar under her belt and her new project is one she fought passionately to make her way. This is the story of the greatest manhunt in history, the quest to find- and kill –Osama Bin Laden. Already in production when he was terminated, this movie is so affecting from the opening frame all the way through the incredible raid on Bin Laden’s compound. Jessica Chastain is the reason why this works as a movie; her performance should be recognized during award season, and Jason Clarke is memorable as well. But what you ultimately take away from this movie is that it is not a commercialized propoganda piece; it’s simply one of the most honest, intense and best films experiences of 2012.
SCORE: 5/5 Schmoes

MARK: “Zero Dark Thirty” was originally going to depict the ongoing hunt for Osama Bin Laden…then we killed him. Lo and behold, there’s now a fitting end to this film that chronicles the years after 9/11 and the political and military operations that led to Bin Laden’s demise. Kathryn Bigelow knows her way around an action thriller, and this may be her best one yet (all apologies to Johnny Utah!)…it’s such an intense and emotional ride that doesn’t blink or take sides; it’s simply a compelling document of what happened. For the first two hours we’re along for the ride with Jessica Chastain, following leads and hoping that the next one is the right one. And then we have that right lead. You’ll forget you’re in a movie theater once Joel Edgerton and Chris Pratt hit the scene; instead you will be riding shotgun on one of the most famous missions in American history. One of my favorites of the year, “Zero Dark Thirty” is a unique film experience that should not be missed.
SCORE: 5/5 Schmoes
