They beat out three directors, Kathryn Bigelow, Timur Bekmambetov, and Daniel Espinosa. I don’t really know much about Timur and Espinosa except that together they sound like a magic team. Timur directed Wanted, which I thought was fun but same ol, same ol. Espinosa has done foreign films so he would be unknown to the American public. I normally like this idea but seeing the way Fox bullied Gavin Hood (although I think the main guy who was doing all the bullying is gone now) maybe Espinosa should get a few notches under his belt and then come back, I am sure the Hulk will be up for another revamp by then.
“I AM STILL WAITING! F RUFFALO!”
The one that shocks me though is Bigelow, why isn’t she in the running still? To be honest, out of this list, she is my pick to direct it. She is coming off an Oscar for best director, she has shown she knows how to create intense moments and get the very best out of actors. She has also shown she can take some shit from egomaniacs and fight back.
“Keep smiling pal, make all the blue people you want, mama is taking home the gold.”
But hey, maybe she just isn’t right for the job. Maybe she doesn’t know what admantum claws are or who Kitty Pride is, etc…or maybe her vision isn’t what Fox wants.
So let’s talk about our two contenders, young dog and old firery vet; Matt Reeves and Tony Scott. Now when I began writing this blog, I thought no brainer, Scott. He has shown that his movies always are intense and exciting. He has a specific style that engages us as an audience and really who the hell is Matt Reeves? But then, the more I thought about it, I lean towards Reeves.
He made Cloverfield, I am not a fan of the movie but it is a fanboy fun monster movie. He had fun with the film. I looked at pictures of them.
Here is Scott.
“Make one more fact point about mutants and I will have Denzel come in here and remove your head with a butter knife.”
Here is Reeves
“Kitty Pride must be in this film!!”
Now out of the two of those pics, I am trusting the JJ Abrahms clone with my Wolverine. He is younger, he is friends with JJ who has proven he can geek out with the best of them. The most important thing though, I feel that this guy may actually be a fan of Wolverine. He may actually know the history, the tone that is supposed to be in the Xmen world. Scott may, but I doubt it. He is a bit older and probably just wants to make a “cool” movie. We need someone who is going to geek out, give us the things we like about Wolverine.
Wolverine hasn’t been cool since he went bananas in the kitchen killing all the guards in Xmen2. That was the Wolverine I grew up knowing. And I hope that we can erase the last few times we have seen him, Mr. Reeves steps in, geeks out and gives us Wolvie back as we knew him when.
The one great thing I will say about this list that was created to choose from, it didn’t have any of these characters anywhere near it.

I loved Cloverfield!
I think Wolverine has been done to death
I pick Bigelow over both, she is in her prime. Scott is over hill and Reeves hasn’t hit his yet.
I would like to exchange links with your site schmoesknow.com
Is this possible?
