A Beatrice News Super Scoop!

Now that the Beatrice Scoop has seen Man of Steel in glorious 2-D, let’s do a wrap-up of all things Superman!

YOU’LL BELIEVE A BRITISH MAN CAN FLOSS.

Edward Snowden is the most wanted man in the world. Except in Schmoeville where the most wanted man is Mark Ellis.

RUNNING ON EMPTY

Man of Steel exceeded all expectations by raking in 128 million dollars thus far. Which is surprising since Kevin Costner is usually box office kryptonite.

POCKET FULL OF KRYPTONITE

Costner’s Jonathan Kent spends a lot of time working his cornfield, because you never know when some old-timey ballplayers are going to show up.

FIELD OF DREAMS

(NOTE: With apologies to Patton Oswalt, I stole that joke from my wife.)

Amy Adams as Lois Lane proclaims proudly that she is a “Pulitzer Prize winning journalist!” So, apparently, there’s a Pulitzer for exposition.

NEWSIES

Lawrence Fishburne plays Perry White meaning they should change the character name to Perry Black. Perry. Black.

NEO-PERRY WHITE

Congrats to Russell Crowe for continuing the character Jor El once played by Marlon Brando. Now Crowe can get old, fat and crazy.

FATMAN RETURNS

General Zod is a well-done reimagining of the original Zod. But would it have killed him to call Earth “Planet Houston?”

The film isn’t perfect, of course. During Man of Steel’s big climax Zod tells Superman, “This can only end one way. Either you die, or I die.” Which is actually two ways.

GRAMMAR POLICE

Spoiler Alert: In this movie, S doesn’t stand for Superman or Hope. Thanks to a million dollar marketing tie-in, S stands for Sears.

COMIC BOOK STORE

What’s really neat is that a ton of Easter Eggs are hidden in the movie, many of which are direct nods to Zach Snyder’s favorite movies such as…

Bourne Identity!

Anything by Michael Bay!

And Minority Report!

And in an interesting move by Snyder, for the film’s first 30 minutes Kal El goes undercover as Wolverine.

X-MAN

This topical incarnation of the Man of Steel focuses a lot on Superman being an immigrant from another world. Or as Jeb Bush calls him: Super Fertile.

SEMEN OF STEEL

“According to the Schmoes, a Man of Steel sequel could be forthcoming as early as next year. No word on who’ll be playing Richard Pryor.

THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN

In other Hollywood News…

Congratulations to Kanye West and Kim Kardashian on their new baby. The child as yet has no name, but Kris Jenner is calling it: Ka-Ching!

SHOWGIRLS

“Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr. are teaming up for another movie, titled Chef. How is this not called Iron Chef?!

SWINGERS

AND FINALLY…

A California woman recently bit into her Burger King hamburger only to discover a razor blade. In France, this is called a Razor Blade Royale.

CLOSE SHAVE

By Joe Ruggirello

“I want to make you a real breakfast. You look terrible.”

Hello Schmoeville!

I apologize for being a day late with this. I ran the San Francisco Marathon on Sunday, so my brain was basically mush for two days. Granted, even at normal capacity I’m not much better than that, but at least now I can actually form a mostly coherent sentence. Me type good lots, yes? But of course I couldn’t let this season’s penultimate episode of Mad Men go by without a review. So hey, better late than never, right? I certainly hope so.

“Belated Mad Men review?! So…cold…”

There was A LOT going on this week, beginning of course with the fallout from Sally catching Don and Silvia “wrestling”. Sally’s solution to her problem: go to boarding school. Don, meanwhile, started his day off right with the breakfast of champions: orange juice and vodka. Coping clearly is not a Draper strong suit. Sally’s visit to boarding involved, naturally, some hazing, drinking, and a cameo from good ol’ Glenn. All these shenanigans lead to a surprise bonding moment between she and her mother as Betty let her smoke in the car. “My father never did anything for me,” she said cryptically. Gee, I wonder if that’ll come back around?

Sally Draper will shank a bitch

Ted and Peggy spent most of the episode giggling like a couple of love-struck teenagers. The scene where they ran into Don and Megan at the movies was the epitome of awkward. It all came to a head when St. Joseph’s saw the $50,000 budget for a commercial which they had only planned on spending $15,000 for. Ted’s insistence that everything would be fine because this was Peggy’s idea and it would all work out was sweet, if naive. Naturally, it fell to Don to sort everything out. In typical Don Draper fashion, he totally saved the day while being a complete d*** and crushing someone else’s hopes and dreams. In this case, he explained that the campaign had been the dearly departed Frank Gleason’s final idea (daaaaaaaaamn!), effectively taking any hopes of credit or awards Peggy and Ted ever had and flushing them right down the toilet. Sure, it kept the client happy and added $10,000 to the budget, but it also drove yet another wedge between Don and Peggy. And Don and Ted, obviously.

Don Draper: Third Wheel

The Pete/Bob dynamic took a strange turn this week. Well, stranger than last week, I guess. After poor Ken Cosgrove decided he’d like to quit traveling to Detroit for Chevy while he still has at least one functioning eye left, it fell to Pete to pick up the slack. Which of course is an opportunity he’s very excited for. The only problem Pete had was having Bob Benson assigned to help him out with it. You know, because of the gay thing. So Pete enlisted his favorite head hunter to do some digging around in Bob’s past. And we learned Bob can cuss in Spanish. Eventually, Pete, surprisingly, defers to Bob and says “I give up.” I’m not quite sure what exactly his findings about Bob Benson mean. On the surface it seemed like Bob was pulling a Dick Whitman/Don Draper. And it makes sense that Pete wouldn’t push the issue seeing as how well that DID NOT go over last time. But I don’t believe Bob’s simply a Don 2.0. I imagine we’ll find out more in next week’s finale. Color me intrigued. At the very least, Pete now has leverage over Mr. Benson. If that is his real name. Which it isn’t.

“If I hear one more f***ing pirate joke…”

Overall, this was a very busy episode that put a lot of pieces in place for next week’s season finale. Will Megan find out about Don and Silvia? Will Ted stop getting f***ed over by Don? WHAT THE HELL IS THE DEAL WITH BOB BENSON??? I’m assuming/hoping we’ll learn the answers to all these questions and more next week. And hopefully Cosgrove will still be in one piece.

I give “The Quality of Mercy” 4.25 out of 5 Schmoes.

Hello Schmoeville!

Felicity Jones is an actress I admire. She’s hella good. A good buddy of mine, Ben York Jones struck Sundance gold by writing and producing Like Crazy, the winner of the grand jury prize at Sundance, and it starred Miss Jones. For those keeping score, yup, I just named dropped the hell out of this post. Deal.

Anywho, thanks to Flicks and the City Miss Jones was being interviewed for her latest (Breathe In) with director Drake Doremus (Like Crazy) and when she was asked about her role in the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man 2 she got noticeably tongue- tied. This has led to MAD speculation about who she will be playing in ASM2.

And thanks to Screen Rant we have some transcript and thoughts:

The interviewer asked Jones about playing Felicia Hardy – whose costumed alter ego is Black Cat – in Amazing Spider-Man 2, and the actress was quick to avert her gaze before offering a (not so) casual reply, “Well… possibly, I don’t know. Yeah, if that happens that would be wonderful.”

Okay, Schmoeville! Let the speculation begin! Do you think Felicity Jones is really playing Black Cat as all the internet sites are reporting? What’s with the dodgy answer to the question? And if you want, click on Flicks and the City to view the video and decide for yourself.

This could (seemingly) be truth but for now, I will only take this with a gran of salt until such time as we get an OFFICIAL STATEMENT. Though it kinda makes sense.

Those unfamiliar with the Spidey comics, Black Cat is a well known antagonist to Peter Parker’s Spider-Man. They have battled, they have hooked up and they have battled and then hooked up. So there is so much potential for her character to be an integral part of the new Spidey-verse.

But with speculation growing every day that this next chapter in the Spider-Man saga will introduce the infamous Sinister Six, and Sony’s claim that we will be getting an Amazing Spider-Man 3 & 4, there seems to be PLENTY of room for the introduction of Black Cat. Only time will tell. I for one hope that Black Cat DOES make an appearance. I’ve always enjoyed the verbal sparring between Spidey and Black Cat so if Sony and Marc Webb do this right, we might be in for a real treat.

Or, on the flip side, we might be looking at overkill. That is for you, good people of Schmoeville, to decide. Until there’s confirmation, keep you eyes here for the news that is fit for print.

What do you think, Schmoeville? Excited for the possibility of Black Cat? Let’s talk about this!

Hello Schmoeville!

Those fine folks from Paramount have just released the poster for Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, and it’s kind of a big deal. A big deal for me as I LOVE the original. Also, it’s kind of a big deal… So says the tagline itself. Take a look!

Here’s an official breakdown of the movie:

With the ’70s behind him, San Diego’s top rated newsman, Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell), returns to the news desk in “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.” Also back for more are Ron’s co-anchor and wife, Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate), weather man Brick Tamland (Steve Carell), man on the street Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd) and sports guy Champ Kind (David Koechner) — all of whom won’t make it easy to stay classy … while taking New York’s first 24-hour news channel by storm. Produced by Judd Apatow, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay. Written by Will Ferrell & Adam McKay. Directed by Adam McKay.

What say you, Schmoeville? How excited are you for the sequel? Is it a big deal for you? Let’s talk about this!

Hello Schmoeville!

Last week, I brought you a potential Star Wars: Episode VII casting breakdown that almost broke the internet. Well wouldn’t you know it, this morning I got my hands on yet another possible Star Wars-related scoop!

As always, nothing here is 100% confirmed. Take everything with a grain of salt. I am merely presenting the information I received and speculating on it. Nothing more.

Now that that’s out of the way, on to the (potential) news!

Intrigued, Yoda is

Obviously, this doesn’t actually mention Star Wars. BUT, we do know that Episode VII will start shooting in the UK in 2014. Certainly, this breakdown doesn’t give much of anything away, as one would expect from a J.J. Abrams project, especially one of this magnitude. Still, all the right names are there, and this is on an actual website for all to see. So, as before, this all seems legit. Whether or not it is…well, we’ll find out eventually, won’t we?

As for the roles listed on this breakdown, if I had to guess I’d say these would be for the non-twin (again, assuming that’s all blah blah blah) or returning players (Luke, Han, Leia, etc.) roles. So perhaps we’re looking at other Jedi students? Friends and/or rivals of our two leads? The “military type” could be our villain; maybe not necessarily the “Big Bad”, but perhaps some remnant of the Empire who’s still around causing trouble (I’d mention Thrawn here but I don’t want to get yelled at). The “tough and opinionated” older man could be an old buddy of Luke’s and/or Han’s. Again, this is all just speculation based on what I’m looking at. I’m just proposing things that I think make sense.

Skeptical. Darth Vader is skeptical

So there you have it, Schmoeville. We might have something here, we might not. I just thought it was worth sharing with you all, should it prove to be legit. Only time will tell. Sound off in the comment section below and let me know what you think. Politely, of course.

Hello Schmoeville!

The folks over at Coming Soon have provided a little snapshot for a Jurassic Park IV banner purporting that 2015 will see the rise of Jurassic Park again!

At first, you see, Jurassic Park IV was originally slated for a 2014 release but Universal pulled the plug at the eleventh hour. They said it was because they wanted to give director Colin Trevorrow enough time to prep the shoot. Many people read this as a bad sign, especially since Universal used the ever dreaded indefinitely when discussing next steps.

They go on to say:

The franchise entry is a massive undertaking regardless, but it also marks Safety Not Guaranteed director Trevorrow’s first studio film and early word is that his rewrite of the script involves some pretty impressive (and time consuming) set pieces that need careful attention.

Here’s a grab of the banner marking the coming of dinosaurs in 2015:

And so, if this turns out to be true, we’ll be getting The Avengers 2, Ant-Man, The Fantastic Four, Finding Dory, Pirates of the Caribbean 5, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 & Star Wars Episode VII all in one summer. My head just exploded. As you were.

How about you, Schmoeville? Excited for another go around at Jurassic Park? What do you think the premise of this one will be? Sound off below, let’s talk about this!

Hello Schmoeville!

Mortal Instruments: City of Bones is quite the mouthful. But I tell you, it rolls off the tongue a lot better than, say, Twilight. But that’s just me.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones is coming later this summer and based on the first book of The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare. Directed by Harald Zwart, it stars Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower, Kevin Zegers, Godfrey Gao, Lena Headey, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Aidan Turner, Robert Sheehan, Kevin Durand and Jared Harris. It is set to be released in theaters on August 21, 2013.

Check out the trailer below:

Personally, I think it looks fairly decent without a lot of mugging/frowning for the camera. Though there are a lot of Ambercrombie and Fitch looking people in the movie so I’m undecided.

How about you, Schmoeville? Do you think it can be a viable fantasy film or is this just another Twilight on our hands? Would love to hear your thoughts, good people of Schmoeville, so sound off! Let’s talk about this!

Hello Schmoeville!

Brace yourselves, because I’m about to break your hearts. According to TheWrap, Ryan Reynolds has dropped out of Summit Entertainment’s upcoming reboot of the 1986 classic(?) film, Highlander.

I know, I know. I’ll give you all a moment to collect yourself.

All hope is lost

Yes, the not-all-that-anticipated film that hasn’t had a director since Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (“28 Weeks Later”) dropped out in November is now also without a leading man. So…that’s going real well for everybody, isn’t it?

The original Highlander starred Christopher “Don’t Call Me Raiden” Lambert as Connor MacLeod, an immortal Scottish man with a French accent who battled the evil Kurgan (Clancy Brown) because “There can be only one”. Sean Connery got bribed into starring as MacLeod’s mentor, Ramirez. It holds a certain cheesy appeal; one of those so-bad-it’s-good-type deals. I accidentally watched it a couple months ago and had quite a few laughs, but not at anything that was intentionally funny. Also I could never understand a single word that came out of Christopher Lambert’s mouth. But hey, that soundtrack sure is rockin’.

From James Bond to…whatever this is

I’ve always liked the idea behind Highlander and its subsequent sequels (and actually the TV show was pretty decent), but none of the movies have ever been very, you know, good. Now the reboot is still director-less and Ryan Reynolds-less. Good luck with all of that, Summit Entertainment.

For those of you who need a Ryan Reynolds fix, you can check out the trailer for R.I.P.D., along with Mark Reilly’s patented snark. Reynolds will also be the voice of an animated snail in the upcoming Turbo from DreamWorks. Plus he’s still married to Blake Lively. So, you know, f*** that guy.

Stupid handsome Ryan Reynolds with his stupid hot wife

The Schmoes brace for another zombie attack with “World War Z”…would the film adaptation live up to the novel upon which it’s based? Could Brad Pitt save Earth from the legion of undead?? Enjoy!

KRISTIAN: It’s zombie time once again, but we’re not talking “Walking Dead” today…it’s “World War Z”, based on the novel and starring Mr. Brad Pitt. The trailers for this film had me worried; the zombie hordes look too CGI and Pitt seemed out of place…but I’m happy to say I was pleasantly surprised and ended up enjoying the movie. Pitt plays a family man who happens to be a former special investigator to the UN; he got out of the life to spend more time with his wife and two girls. But when a mysterious virus spreads into the world’s population, the precious few humans who haven’t been affected must fight back against the mass of apparent zombies. It’s a tall order: these undead folk are reminiscent of the “28 Days Later” zombies. They are quick and have a very creepy way of jerking around. Pitt is such an engaging star and his performance may have kept me much more into this film than most actors would; the pacing of the film also will keep you on the edge of your seat…for a while. The film slows considerably in the last third, and honestly that shift took me out of the story. I was left a bit flat at the end, and felt like they may have decided to leave some room for further adventures at the last minute. Whatever the case, overall I was happy with how much I enjoyed watching this flick. Whether it’s due to the presence of a true star like Brad Pitt or the sheer force of the first 2/3 of the story, “World War Z” is a good time at the movies.

KRISTIAN: 3.5/5 SCHMOES

MARK: Brad Pitt has forged quite a career for having such an ugly face; the former Sexiest Man Alive doesn’t have much competition in the looks department in the zombie apocalypse flick “World War Z”…he’s one fo the last humans on Earth not yet affected by a worldwide outbreak of a disease that turns people into zombies. For the sake of his family, he relies on his former job training at the UN to help keep humanity afloat. Based on the novel, it’s a bold premise to attempt on screen and I’m thrilled to say that I enjoyed the hell of “World War Z”…this is such a good time at the movie theater. It’s perfect summer entertainment that combines action, suspense and horror into a film that never lets you take a breath. The effects, a concern amongst preview audiences, are very well done (the zombie piling that grows exponentially like a stadium full of goalline stands is particulary effective), and the performances mesh with the material. Pitt is the one and only lead, his family is on the sidelines for most of the movie while he embraces reluctant-yet-badass hero mode. For a movie about a horde of undead creatures, “World War Z” has a healthy pulse to it…it’s an adventure that literally spans the globe at a breakneck pace before shifitng into a tense, suspense-filled final frame. It’s the most pleasant surprise of the summer so far, and it may have done the unthinkable: get me to read the book.

SCORE 4/5 SCHMOES

Hello Schmoeville!

Ridley Scott and Fox Studios are officially moving forward on a sequel to Prometheus hiring writer Jack Paglen (Transcendence) to pen the script. So says VARIETY.

For Paglen, the film marks his second high-profile project following Wally Pfister and Johnny Depp’s sci-fi thriller “Transcendence,” which opens next April.

There is still no word yet on whether or not Michael Fassbender or Noomi Rapace will be back but I’ve got money on them returning. They have to. Right? I mean, they flew off in the f*cking ship at the end of the last one looking for the Engineers homeworld, we can’t be left hanging on that one, right? Oh, um, Spoiler Alert.

In my opinion, this is a good sign for the franchise. Although I am not familiar with Palgen’s work, the fact that he wrote Wally Pfister’s (DP from Inception, The Dark Knight) directorial debut AND snagged Johnny Depp proves he’s got the chops. And let’s be honest, we could use some fresh blood to help tie this universe (Prometheus) to the Alien franchise.

I loved Prometheus and am not afraid to say so. I thought it introduced some fascinating concepts and themes to the masses while establishing its own story universe and the rules therein. Visually, it was stunning. The acting was top notch and I personally enjoyed the slow burn.

Now before you start sending me hate mail, understand, Prometheus was MEANT to have a sequel. I do not believe for one moment that Ridley Scott and his team wanted to make a movie that would end where Alien begins. They have big ideas; ideas too epic in scope to explore in one film. And I got that. I saw the bigger picture Ridley set out to do and he hooked me.

I’m pretty sure it was Ridley’s idea all along to do something different that would inevitably lead to the connection with Alien. Prometheus is part one of that grand scheme and I’m sure part 2 will evolve the universe further while also tying in to the Alien-verse. I imagine by part 3, we’ll have a rock solid connection and most if not all of our questions will be answered.

That’s what I loved about Prometheus to begin with. It didn’t spoon feed me anything, made me think, and evoked the look and feel of Alien while not hitting me over the head with it. I could tell the two movies were connected and knew there was something deeper going on. Now, with this sequel news, I am excited to see how far Ridley and his team will go.

What about you, Schmoeville? Excited for another Prometheus? Are you hoping for a more direct connection to the Alien franchise with this next one? So much to talk about here! So… let’s talk about this!

Hello Schmoeville!

Empire Online has a neat little interview with his ‘Holiness Joss Whedon’. And for those of you keeping score, yes, I just referred to Joss Whedon as “his holiness.” That pretty much assures my ticket to hell. Or geek heaven. Whichever.

Anywho, Joss sat down with the peeps over at Empire to discuss the status of the Avengers sequel and pretty much nixed the idea of a retread for Loki as “big baddie.”

Oh look, a quote:

“Everyone is going to be looking for the Loki-Hulk smash moment and you’ll be looking for [a quim moment]. First of all, imitating what I did before is the surest way to do it not as well. Second of all, Loki’s not there to say those terrible things. Although I do think we should bring the word back, not as an insult, it’s just a nice word.”

The whole interview can be found on Empire at the link provided up top – if you want to hear more from Joss himself. He does get into discussing the newest additions to the team, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, and how they might fit into the universe. A pretty cool interview if I do say so my damn self.

What does this mean for Loki? Everyone’s favorite orphaned Frost Giant? Well, I’m sure Thor: The Dark World will answer all those questions so I am not concerned. Marvel has shown us time and time again they know what they are doing so I’m sure Loki will be just fine. Stop yelling at me.

So what do you think, Schmoeville? Are you bummed there will be no Loki in part 2? Or are you like me and hope to see some fresh bad guys for the Avengers to Assemble against? Sound off below! Let’s talk about this!

Hello Schmoeville!

Well, Sony is staking claim for its Spider-Man franchise, grabbing up two future dates that will see the release of Amazing Spider-Man 3 & Amazing Spider-Man 4. I guess they have some big plans for Spidey. Big plans that will take them through 2018.

So says Deadline with a snippet of a press release:

CULVER CITY, Calif., June 17, 2013 – With Sony Pictures Entertainment now in production in New York on The Amazing Spider-Man™ 2, slated for release on May 2, 2014, the studio is planting its flag on two future release dates for one of the most successful franchises in studio history, it was announced today by Jeff Blake, Chairman, Worldwide Marketing and Distribution for Sony Pictures. The next two films in the story of Peter Parker will be released on June 10, 2016, and on May 4, 2018, respectively.

So it looks like we’ll be getting a new Spider-Man film every two years. Spidey-fans, rejoice!

I’m all for it. I think the reboot was pretty damn good (though I had some issues with it) and really, I felt they were trying to get their feet under them first in doing so. The main gripe from me (and most fans) was the retread of the origin story. But now that we are in full swing (get it?) and Amazing Spider-Man 2 is filming now, it appears Sony has a set plan in place for the web-head.

Recently, we reported some interesting details in regards to some casting and conjecture on the part of the villains in the upcoming film. You can read that article here. The post gets a little SPOILERY so beware of clicking if you want to remain completely virginal to all things Spidey.

What I will say, I have a feeling based on some of the news/rumors coming from the set of ASM2 is that Sony and the filmmakers appear to be setting up for something big…. something sinister… You web-heads will get the reference. If Sony/Marc Webb et al., are in fact going for an adaptation of one of the biggest and most epic storylines from the Spider-Man comics, they may need four movies to do it in. So, I will remain cautiously optimistic and hope, nay – pray, that we get an epic Spider-Man trilogy (quadrilogy?) that is both satisfying and visually epic.

How about you, Schmoeville? Excited for more Amazing Spider-Man? Excited for three more Amazing Spider-Men- er, man? Anywho, sound off in the comment section below! Let’s talk about this!

Hello Schmoeville!

Jo Blo has dropped some pretty good pics of Cap’s new suit from Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Granted, the picture is of Chris Evans stunt guy but you can clearly see what the new costume looks like. Take a gander:

I’m digging the new look. It’s MUCH BETTER than the costume we got in Avengers. A good step up from there but still, no where near as cool a costume Cap wore in the original.

Speaking of which, as mentioned up top, Jo Blo also has a very SPOILERIFIC take on why he wears this costume and also the “supposed” reasons involved for the change up. Not to ruin anything but they have a very cool theory (based on a source of theirs’) that could see Cap wearing yet another costume in the movie. The whole article gets into some story beats from the sequel so if you are interested in said spoilers and how his costume(s) come into play in the sequel, by all means, hit the link and give Jo Blo a visit.

So what do you think of the news digs, Schmoeville? Let’s talk about this!

Hello Schmoeville!

Okay, this is news. And from my point of view, news that causes me to get a little angry (should it come to fruition). But lo, it looks as though this might be happening based on the latest article from The Wall Street Journal.

Warner is already in development on a sequel to “Man of Steel” and is expected to fast track that for release as soon as 2014, said knowledgeable people close to the studio.

In addition, it has long been developing a “Justice League” team-up movie featuring characters such as the Flash and Wonder Woman that could come out as soon as 2015.

I’m sorry, come again? Fast tracking a sequel to Man of Steel and dating it for 2014 is all sorts of ridiculous, shows everything wrong with the studio system, and is putting into question my love for the latest movie and the new franchise.

Reilly editorial here: You can not make a GOOD sequel to Man of Steel if you are going to rush something into production to match a date. Moreover, the themes and character motifs that you introduced in MOS will suffer mightily by rushing a script– taking my biggest note from MOS (more character involvement/complexity/development) and firmly shitting on that premise in order to cash in.

This is a move not by filmmakers or story tellers, but by businessmen sitting on high. And frankly, this has nothing to do with Man of Steel or Superman, but EVERYTHING to do with Justice League.

WB wants Avengers money and the only way to do that is to further exploit Superman and MOS with a fast tracked sequel that will no doubt be a movie all about Justice League Easter Eggs and less to do with Superman (Iron Man 2 anyone?).

Come on WB!!! Give me the smallest amount of a f’ing break!

“It’s more than just a franchise for us, it really opens up the door to do combinations of the DC Comics characters,” said Dan Fellman, Warner’s president of domestic distribution. “We can build them up like Marvel did and benefit from the history of DC.”

Let me paraphrase here. “It’s more than just a franchise” (f’ this Superman guy) “It really opens the door to do combinations of the DC Comics characters (we want ALL OUR DC CHARACTERS ON SCREEN TO MAKE THE MOST MONEY POSSIBLE). “We can build them up like Marvel did” (we will rush the product into the marketplace to copy Marvel’s plan in order to MAKE THE MOST MONEY POSSIBLE!)

Bunch of boneheads, I’m astounded by this news. They have something good with MOS (I know a lot of you had problems with it) and if they don’t take the time to address the issues with the first movie, work the script – the story and the characters – and make something interesting, MOS 2 will come out a year from now and flounder effectively shooting Justice League in the foot.

Seriously, this is not good.

So sound off Schmoeville! I know my MOS detractors will no doubt agree with me on this point. As for those that liked/loved MOS, how do you feel about this news? As a lover of MOS, this news comes out of left field and doesn’t bode well for the future of DC Comics or their movie adaptations. So let loose, my friends, let’s talk about this!
