Our review of Bullet to the Head:
KRISTIAN: First we had Arnold, now we get a new Stallone-driven action film…in 2013! Some may wonder how or why these guys are still cranking out movies at their age, but I’m loving it. Is “Bullet to the Head” an Oscar contender? Nope…but it’s a fun ride with some great action scenes. Sly is his usual self, looking great for his age but as unintelligible as ever…but he’s not the only comeback in this film: Walter Hill, the director of “48 Hours”, is at the helm and gives the movie a quick pace that may get silly but never dull. Jason Mamoa also impressed me as the villain; all his sins for “Conan the Barbarian” are forgiven and hopefully the climactic axe fight will prove to Stallone that we have a new Expendable cast member the next time around.
SCORE: 3/5 Schmoes
MARK: I’ll never complain about getting to see an action movie with one of my childhood favorites headlining; the great thing about Sylvester Stallone is that he also seems to be appreciative of his past and has had fun honoring the action genre with “The Expendables” films…in “Bullet to the Head” he’s headlining solo, and though it’s not his fault, this film just isn’t very good. Of course I’ll have fun watching it, but the script is an assembly-line action story with dialogue that just makes you want to get to the next action scene. The fights are worth the price of admission (come on people, there’s an axe fight!), but as a movie “Bullet to the Head” can’t get up there with Sly’s other recent endeavors.
SCORE: 2/5 Schmoes
